The Chianti wine region at the heart of Tuscany is reputedly one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. Originally this castle was one of the oldest outposts on the Etruscan road connecting Volterra and Fiesole, overlooking the valley of Greve in Chianti, in the wine region of the same name. Not only is the hilly scenery a spectacular sight, but its history is equally rich. Castellare di Ugnana, perched high on the side of a hill with open views of the valley below, was later transformed into a medieval castle and has now been artfully restored. This Luxury Villa in Tuscany is now for rent to a select clientelle.
Historical documents exist dating March 31, 1,085 mentioning the donation of land from the castle to a nearby abbey, Monte Scalari. During the centuries it was owned by the Capponi family. It was then used as a military headquarters during the wars between Florence and Siena.
The remnants of the castle have now been fully restored by the owners, Roberto and Christine Zecca, and stands as a splendid example of the medieval architecture.
Historical documents have been recovered that date back to March 31, 1085. They are written in "vulgar latin." The document at the bottom is a recent translation of the original document from 1085 AD, but it is still in Latin.
