The Chianti wine region at the heart of Tuscany is reputedly one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. Not only is the hilly scenery a spectacular sight, but its history is equally rich. The Castellare di Ugnana, perched high on the side of a hill with open views of the valley below, was once an outpost on the road connecting the Etruscan towns of Volterra and Fiesole.
The Chianti region offers many opportunities for wine tasting. You may want to choose just one or two wineries, to be safe. We'll list a few to get you started:
Tasting wine at an Enoteca
You can also find wines to taste, buy and drink at an Enoteca. One of the largest in the Chianti Classico area is Le Cantine di Greve in Chianti, where you can do a tasting of (degustazione) wine, cheese, salame, grappa, and olive oil. There's also a wine musuem. There are over 140 wines to taste, so pace yourself. There are smaller Enotece in villages all over Italy.
